This weekend we went up to the natural stone bridge and caves, which is about 30 miles north of Queensbury. There were several reasons to do this: one was that the autumn colors have started to turn. Being most recently from Flagstaff, we figured we had maybe three hours of good leaf color before everything died and fell of the trees. No, apparently, things will look like this for a solid few weeks. Another reason was that we are so desperate to get out of our townhouse whenever possible right now that we probably would have been happy taking the kids for a "hike" around the local high school track for a few laps. We weren't expecting this to be anything too fantastic, but I must admit we were very happily surprised.

The natural stone bridge is apparently the largest one on the east coast. It's family-owned and operated, and there was a fun little self-guided hike / tour through the area. So, we got out to see a little more of our new home.

Even while driving up, just looking out the car windows along the side of the interstate, it became evident that in a couple of weeks the autumn colors are going to be nothing short of jaw-dropping. Right now, maybe 1/4 of the trees have turned, so there's these spots of bright orange, yellow, and red color in the middle of a green hillside.

All the autumn festivals are set to start in a couple of weeks, and it's also prime apple-picking season. All of these activities will hopefully help us keep from going crazy while we wait for the house to close so we can finally move into our new place here. As far as the home-selling and home-buying efforts go, all of our work is done; we're just waiting for the title companies, real estate agents, lawyers, banks, etc. to do their jobs. It's excruciating.

Wow! Those pictures are amazing! How are you liking it in NY now that you've been there a while? We loved Connecticut so much. Nothing beats autumn in the east (especially New England--go up to Vermont!). Looking at all your pictures full of trees makes me madly jealous.
